Musa is thrilled to Host Patricia Yager Delagrange author of Moon over Alcatraz.
Patricia Tell us about yourself…
I’ve had the greatest opportunity ever to be a stay-at-home mom. My son is now 17 years old and my daughter is 13. It’s the most important job I’ve ever had. I will never forget the time my daughter came home from school and told me her friend asked why her mom didn’t have a “job”. After getting over feeling insulted, I realized both my kids were becoming more independent then asked myself what I’d like to do with my “freed up” time. I went to the Apple store, bought a MacBook, and decided to write a book.
Tell us about your Book…
Moon Over Alcatraz is about a couple who loses their baby in childbirth and how their lives veer in directions away from each other during their ensuing grief. Even though it has it’s sad parts, there is definitely happiness sprinkled throughout the novel...and it has a “happily ever after” ending.
What are your five favorite Novels?
Jodi Picoult’s 19 Minutes, Richard Pauls Evans’ Michael Vey, Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cover series, John Grogan’s Marley and Me, and Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook.
Who is your favorite Hero/Heroine you have written?
My favorite heroine is Brenda Cavanaugh in my book Brenda’s Wish. She’s a divorced mother of a 17-year-old son whose ex-husband is murdered. It deals with her and her son’s lives after that incident and how it affects them is both tangled and positive.
Who is your favorite Hero/Heroine you have read?
One of my favorite heroes is Tom Booker in Nicholas Evans’ The Horse Whisperer. I love the way he believed in the possibility that a mentally injured horse could be happy again and be reunited with his “person”.
What’s your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Gladiator. My friend told me about it and when Russell Crowe came onto the screen, I was never the same! I fell in love and have seen that movie a gazillion times. Who else could wear a dress made out of armor like that and look like a hunk?
What is your favorite quote?
Corny, but “If you don’t have an iPhone, you don’t have an iPhone” has stuck in my head for months. If someone makes a comment where this quote is appropriate, I use it. Hey, everyone knows what you’re talking about when you say it.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would live in Santa Barbara, California. I got my Bachelor’s degree in Spanish form U.C. Santa Barbara and lived there for eight years. It’s so beautiful there with the gigantic palm trees waving in the sea breeze, the long boardwalk along the beach where you can ride your bike, perfect weather. I always loved living there.
